About me
I am an italian artist based in Berlin, creating jewellery and small unique objects.
Graduated as Product Designer in Rome, after several years of designing furniture and graphic work, I decided to focus on my personal artistic practice.
I make unique jewellery and small objects with a “soul”, meant as things with an emotional value, capable of moving the beholder.
I grew up in a small village on the Amalfi Coast, Raito, in close contact with nature and the sea, which are an essential source of inspiration for my work. I do my utmost to respect and celebrate nature in its cycle of growth and decay.
I believe in the beauty of things made with care and passion, therefore I produce my pieces entirely by hand, slowing down production and increasing their value.
My pieces are entirly made by hand and mainly made to order, so as to avoid overproduction, waste and increase awareness.
Technique
My pieces are entirely created by hands with love and dedication.
I work mainly with the lost-wax casting technique (“cire perdue”), an ancient technique used in art and manufacturing that allows me to create sculptural forms with intricate details.
Apart from its poetic name “cire perdue”, all the process is very interesting and romantic:
During the casting process, the wax is lost by melting and poured away so as to leave space for the metal. Each wax piece has just one matching metal.
Once the delicate wax is transformed into vigorous metal, the piece is cleaned and finished to the finest detail to shine.
Materials
The lost wax technique allows me to work with different metals, but I work mainly with bronze, a metal alloy that I like very much for its colour and characteristics. It is a ‘living’ material that has a natural evolution, changing colour over time and in contact with your body, but with a little care and dedication it returns to its initial splendour.
Approach
The packaging is entirely made of paper and I use recycled and biodegradable materials in the studio, where practicable, to be more conscious of my environmental impact.
With the aim of minimizing waste in the production of the pieces, most of the pieces are made-to-order.
